Quarterback Cameron Whitehead had five total touchdowns, three passing, one rushing, and one defensive score to lead the Sidney Cowboys to their 56-12 win over East-Mills.
The win boosted Sidney’s season record to an unbeaten mark of 6-0.
Even when considering the dominance of Friday’s win and Sidney’s unbeaten status, Coach Donnie Sears said he understands there is room to improve each and every game.
“I thought we played well enough to win convincingly, but probably weren’t as sharp as we need to be moving forward.” Coach Sears said. “We never got into a consistent rhythm.”
Coach Sears noted that  his team would make good plays then there were some mishaps.
Despite the mistakes, Sidney led 41-6 at halftime.
Whitehead was efficient in the passing game completeing 4-of-5 passes for 72 yards and three touchdowns.
His longest touchdown pass of the night was a 54- yard completion to Caleb Behrends.
Bryson Duncan who is the Cowboys’ leading rusher, posted 127 yards on 17 carries.  The stat line represented Duncan’s sixth consecutive game with 100 yards rushing .
Cody Dupre broke a run for 46 yards for a touchdown and senior Tate Thompson added two carries for 39 yards and a score.
On the receiving end, Behrends, Brady Lorimor and Thompson each had a touchdown.
Coach Sears said he was pleased with how his defensive secondary played in this contest.
“We covered better in the secondary this week than in recent games.” Coach Sears said.
Dupre added seven tackles on defense and Nicholas Massey had five tackles.
Whitehead intercepted a pass and returned the ball for 23 yards for a touchdown and Duncan recovered a fumble.
Up next for Sidney is Woodbine, a team that’s 3-3 on the season but which brings a lot of offensive firepower in averaging 52 points a game.
“Their running back is a big and strong athlete who runs extremely well.”  Coach Sears said. “They also spread the field and throw the ball well.  We need to show up and play our best football of the season.”.
Sidney will travel to Woodbine on Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
