Betty Sjulin, formerly of Hamburg, Iowa, passed away at the age of 90 in Corvallis, Oregon. Betty was born into the Tom and Jessie Finnell family in Hamburg, where she was one of 7 close knit and fun-loving siblings. She had 5 sisters and one brother, all of whom preceded her in death. After high school Betty married Dick Sjulin, where they raised their two children in the vibrant 1950 & 60’s community of Hamburg. Betty was a talented and creative home decorator. She could drape windows, reupholster, refinish, wallpaper, accessorize, and arrange wall art with great skill. Betty was also an accomplished golfer and won many club championships. While on the course, she coached us on the important rules of golf etiquette. Which included: know where to stand and when to keep quiet; take your time, but not too much; never swing when there is a chance of hitting any other players; losing the game can be frustrating, but losing your cool is worse; respect the green; replace your divots. Betty is survived by her son, John Leslie Sjulin; daughter Daryl Ann Peterson; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Betty lived the last 17 years near her son in Ardmore, OK and with her daughter in Corvallis, OR. She was cherished to the end. Memories of Betty can be posted on www.mchenryfuneralhome.com If you would like to celebrate her memory through a donation, please consider the Hamburg Alumni Assoc., or a cause of your choosing.
