Robert D. Dalton, age 81, of Hamburg, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.
He was born Robert Dale Dalton on April 7, 1939, at Hamburg; the son of Maurice W. “Two Gun” and Beulah E. (Geyer) Dalton. He attended school and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the Class of 1957.
Shortly after graduation, he entered the US Air Force in June of 1957. He honorably and faithfully served his country until his discharge in June of 1963. While in service, he was united in marriage to Mary Eleanor Ash on July 29, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisc., and to this union three children were born: Bradley, Brian and Victoria.
Mary Eleanor preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1996. He later married Nancy Witter on April 5, 2008, in Hamburg.
Robert and his dad owned and operated their own trucking company for many years hauling cattle, grain and other various items for farmers in the area. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Hamburg American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Nancy of Hamburg; children: Bradley Dalton and wife Jennifer of Council Bluffs, Victoria Loggins and husband Joel of Murrayville, Ga.; step-daughters Terri Witter Oscar and Ronda Witter both of Nebraska City; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; other family and many friends.
In addition to his wife Mary Eleanor, he was preceded in death by a son Brian on Aug. 7, 2016, step-daughter Angela Childers on July 5, 2020, and a brother Maurice Wayne Dalton on Nov. 20, 2017.
Mass of Christian Burial was to be Monday (Aug. 3) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamburg. Burial was to follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg with complete military services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.
The family was to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (8/2) followed by a prayer service at 6 p.m. - all at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
Memorials may be given to the Phoenix House in Council Bluffs or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hamburg.
