Mary Margaret Givehand, age 97, of Nebraska City died April 11, 2020, at Morton Place Assisted Living in Nebraska City.
Mary was born April 6, 1923 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Alonzo R. and Mary Jane (Goodlow) Adams and lived in Nebraska City her entire life.
She married Luther D. Givehand in Salem, Ark. Mary was a first-grade teacher in Omaha for 30 years before her retirement.
She received her bachelor’s degree in education at Pittsburg State and received her master’s degree in Education at Peru State College.
Mary was a charter board member of the Nebraska City High School Alumni Foundation and was still an active board member at the time of her death. She was very dedicated to the Alumni Foundation and worked tirelessly on the scholarship committee.
Mary was a devout person and very involved in her church and church activities.
She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible.
Mary loved baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan.
She loved to travel and spend time with family and her many friends.
Survivors include her children, Robert Givehand and wife Julie of Old Saybrook, Conn.; Luke Givehand of Lincoln; grandchildren, Natalie Rowe and husband Gerald; Sephora Givehand; Mahlah Givehand; Jael Givehand and Tehra Givehand; great grandchild, Brooklynn Rowe; many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luther; daughter, Jane Louise Givehand-Glover; four sisters and four brothers.
Private Family Graveside Funeral Services were to be held Friday, April 17, 2020 at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
