Michael Dean “Mike” Scheele, 68, of Holton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1951, in Beatrice, the son of Donald Henry and Mary Louise White Scheele.
Mike graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1970 and received his Associates Degree in Accounting from Phillips University in Enid, Okla. He worked 40 years for BNSF Railroad in both Nebraska and Kansas.
He had been in Kansas since 1997 and retired as Railroad Clerk in 2011. Mike loved officiating high school sports. He worked as a football official and as a baseball umpire over the span of 35 years.
Mike was a member of the First Christian Church in Holton. He was an Eagle Scout in his youth and was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
He was married to Dana JoAnne Wiese on Aug. 6, 1983, in Lincoln.
She survives of the home. Mike is also survived by his daughter, Heather Marie Docherty (Scott II) of Pittsburg, Kan.; his sons, Donald Henry Scheele (Amanda) of Topeka, Kan., and Richard Anthony Scheele (Jacqueline) of Chicago, Ill.; his sisters, Patricia A. McReynolds (William) of University Park, Kan., and Pamela Wendelin of Crete, and six grandchildren, Kenneth, Henry, Nathaniel, Marley, Kinsley and Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gregory A. Scheele.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the First Christian Church in Holton. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery in Diller at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service Friday at the church. In honor of Mike, the family would love for everyone in attendance to wear their favorite Nebraska Cornhusker attire.
