Gene “Geno” Ray Nannen, age 77, of Nebraska City died March 28, 2019, at his home surrounded by family.
Gene was born Aug. 11, 1941, in Lincoln, the son of Raymond Victor and Margaret Fern (Hile) Nannen.
He married Kay Keller, Aug. 3, 1961, at St. John’s United Church of Christ near Talmage.
Geno formerly lived in Syracuse before moving to Nebraska City many years ago.
He and his wife Kay owned and operated Geno’s Bar and Grill for 45 years before retiring in 2017. Gene was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, Elks Lodge No. 1049, and Eagles Aerie No. 958 in Nebraska City.
He was a retired member of the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department and formerly served on the Nebraska City Rescue Squad.
Geno was a devoted Husker and Yankee fan, and enjoyed attending all sporting events.
You could always catch Geno on the golf course with “the guys” shooting countless rounds of golf or watching the baseball game down at the Tavern.
Survivors include his wife Kay of Nebraska City; daughters, Sarah Hotsenpillar (Tim)  of Tekamah; Amanda Nannen (Cathy) of Omaha and Lydia Nannen of Nebraska City; two grandchildren, Joshua Hotsenpillar and Anna Hotsenpillar; brothers, Dick Nannen of Fremont and Niel (Carol) Nannen of Lincoln; brother and sister in law, Dennis (Carol) Keller of Tucson, Ariz.; and Maddy (Leon) Keller Wilhelm of Falls City; cousin, Sue (Bill) Hoppe of Lincoln; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nathan; sister, Joyce Wenz; brothers, Bob, Lyle and Mike; father and mother in law, Kenneth and Delores Keller; brother in law, Ron Keller.
Funeral services were to be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City with burial in Wyuka Cemetery. Luncheon was to follow in the church basement. Visitations were to be 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
