William R. “Bill” Lutz, age 85 of Omaha, passed away on Feb. 11, 2019, at The Heritage at Legacy in Omaha.   
He was born on May 5, 1933 in Nebraska City; the son of Rudolph Edward and Dorothy Alberta (Koeppel) Lutz.  
He attended school and graduated from St. Bernard’s Academy (Lourdes Central Catholic) in Nebraska City with the class of 1950.
Bill entered the U.S. Army on June 10, 1953, and served his country during the Korean War.  
He was honorably discharged on May 18, 1955.    Following his discharge from service, he began college at Peru State College, Peru where he earned his Business Degree in 1959.
He was united in marriage on Oct. 24, 1953 to Bertha M. “Bertie” Schmitz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Paul.
He worked for Firestone for some 33 years and was the Regional Human Resources Director at the time of his retirement in 1980.  He was a member of the American Legion and St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Omaha.   
 He is survived by his wife Bertie Lutz of Omaha; children:  William Robert Lutz, Jr. and wife Melony of Tonganoxie, Kan., Laura Blevins and husband Ralph of Topeka, Kan., Mary Ellen Hiatt and husband Richard of Omaha, Susan Lienberger and husband Scott of Jewell, Kan., and Stephen Lutz and wife Randi of Tonganoxie, Kan.; daughter in law Kris Lutz of Omaha; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sisters:  Kathleen Bostic of Mustang, Okla.; and Joanne Hanks and husband Jim of Hays, Kan.; brothers-in-law:  William Long of Sidney, Iowa, and Gary Hert of Omaha; sisters-in-law:  Donna Stratker and husband Henry of Nebraska City, Virginia Schmitz of Greeley, Colo., and Caroline Schmitz of Fremont, Calif.; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son Patrick Lutz, grandson Michael Scott Lienberger, brother Donald Lutz, sisters:  Jane Long and Jean Hert; brothers-in-law:  Alvin Schmitz, Joseph “Buddy” Schmitz and Gary Bostic and a sister in law Loretta Sarraillon.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday (2/16) at 11 am. at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Omaha (16701 S Street).    Inurnment will be held on May 5, 2019, (Bill’s birthday) at St. Joseph’s Cemetery southwest of Nebr. City (Paul) with complete military honors.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation or for Masses.
