Diane Nadine Schacht, age 71, passed into the loving arms of her heavenly Father at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.  
She was born Dec, 7, 1947, in Nebraska City, the first daughter of Marvin and Vivian (Vermule) Schacht.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church near Cook.
Diane first attended classes in a one room school, Dist. #49, north of Cook, which was also the school that her father and grandfather attended.  
She also attended school at Bratton Union, Filley, and Talmage, and was a 1966 graduate of Cook Community School.  
Diane received her bachelor’s degree from Tarkio College and her Master’s Degree in Library and Informational Sciences from the University of Missouri – Columbia.  Following graduation she worked as the school librarian at the Maries County R-17 School District in Belle, Mo., for over 30 years. Upon retirement, she returned to Syracuse to help care for her father.
Diane was a member of St. Paul’s UCC Church, the Osage Women’s Fellowship, DAR, Eastern Star, Missouri State Teachers Assoc., Missouri Assoc. of School Librarians, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister, Joycelin Schacht.  She is survived by her sister Anita, and husband Ron Bowman of Fremont, Neb.; nieces and nephew, Elizabeth and husband Ken Halvorsen and Dr. Erik and wife Crystal Bowman, all of Lincoln, and Alicia and husband Dr. Erich Schafer of Fremont, Mich.  Also great nephews and great nieces:  Jordan Satter, Kaitlyn Halvorsen, Zahara, Ainsley, and Halia Bowman, and Brigham and Ellianna Schafer.
Diane was a kind and gentle soul who loved cats, reading, traveling, and participating in the activities of her family.
Funeral services were to be held Sunday, Jan. 13, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, near Cook, at 1:30 p.m.
Visitation was to be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude, Operation Smile or St. Paul’s UCC (Osage).
