A 2-year-old New Mexico girl died after being left in a hot car for several hours, police say.
Now, the babysitter allegedly responsible for the incident could face time in prison.
TV station KVUE reports that Tammie Brooks, 41, has been arrested and charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death. She was supposed to drop Zariah Hasheme off at daycare, but apparently forgot.
Brooks found Zariah in the back of the car several hours later when she left to run errands.
Zariah's parents, Zachary Hasheme and Demi Petrowski, say she was their "miracle baby." The couple endured six miscarriages before her arrival.
"I would not wish this pain and this hurt upon my worst enemy," Petrowski told TV station KOB. "I mean, you can forget to bring a pen with you, but it's kind of hard to forget about a kid in the car."
A GoFundMe account started to help cover funeral expenses for the child had raised more than $5,000 as of Thursday afternoon.
