On Thursday, Jan. 28, the Howard County Economic Development Board accepted the verbal resignation of HCED Executive Director Ken Paxton. Paxton did not provide reasons for his resignation.
“While we are taken back by this resignation, the HCED Board would like to thank Ken for the accomplishments of the past few years, including his work with others to help bring ALCO to Cresco, one of our main strategic initiatives, his work with community leaders in bringing wind energy to Howard County, and a number of other economic initiatives he had begun working on,” commented Gary Gooder, HCED Board Chair. “We look to have a passionate, committed director in our office as soon as possible to lead our economic efforts and strengthen our relationships with existing and new partners.”
Gooder said a search for an executive director would begin shortly. Those with possible economic development opportunities or questions are asked to call the office at 563-547-3434.
On a different note, lease plan to attend an economic development meeting Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cresco Bank and Trust meeting room to review with presentations from two outside speakers on the economic conditions in Iowa and Northeast Iowa, including the impact of the current recession and how to combat declining local population through the development of shared entrepreneurial efforts.
