Hamburg Swim Coach Roxanne Sebek has overseen 15 successful seasons.
Not one of those campaigns ended with a losing record for Hamburg, and just one season ended with a record of .500.
This season could have been different.
Put the emphasis on could have been.
Hamburg never had its full lineup available for a meet and was sometimes without some of its top swimmers.
Kyle Sebek, the fastest swimmer on the Hamburg roster, was lost early in the season to a separated shoulder severe enough to keep the Hamburg star from competing in football this fall.
He swam one race and was forced to sit out the season.
Three of Hamburg’s tougher swimmers, the Gude boys, Thomas, Andrew and Joseph, were away from the team for four meets. And those weren’t the only absences.
Despite the adversity, the Hamburg team swam to a 7-1 record.
“It could have very easily been our worst season ever,” Coach Sebek said, adding that the kids responded well to the challenge. “They always got out there and swam the best they could.”
All the contributions were key.
Coach Sebek said all of her swimmers would like to be the fastest for their age group. Just a few swimmers can attain that goal. Coach Sebek said all swimmers were able to make contributions by scoring medals and keeping points away from foes.
“The kids just gave a very good effort,” Coach Sebek said.
The Hamburg coach also noted the efforts of the youngest swimmers on the team, the eight and under swimmers, a group that Sebek spends a lot of time with during the course of the short  season.
“It always just amazes me how much those eight and unders improve in just a week or two,” Coach Sebek said.
