The Sidney boys’ basketball team lost to Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 46-35 as the Cowboys had an off night offensively and had a difficult time getting rebounds off missed free throws by CBTJ on Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Sidney High School gymnasium.
‘We made some mistakes down the stretch,” coach Kent Larsen said.  “The offensive rebounds on the missed free throws and fouling the wrong people, those are learning situations because it’s the first time we have been in that situation.”
With the score 19-12, in favor of the Yellow Jackets, Brady Lorimor made a lay up at the buzzer and was fouled.  Lorimor made the free throw to get the Cowboys within four at the half.
After trailing the whole game, Sidney was able to take the lead with four minutes left in the third quarter, 22-21.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead, but Sidney stayed close trailing by two.
Council Bluffs expanded its lead with free throws and rebounding.
With three minutes to go in the game, the Yellow Jackets hit a big three point shot to take a double digit lead, 43-33, and eventually win the contest.
Coach Larsen was happy with the way his team played on the defense side but he said his team had a hard time hitting shots.
“If you told me we would hold them to 46 points, I’d take that in a heart beat,” Larsen said.  “Who are you going to beat when you score 35?”
The leading scorer for the Cowboys was Cameron Whitehead with 10.  Other noted scorers were  Cody Dupre, eight; Lorimor, seven; Noah Jorgenson, seven; Zayne Osborn, two; and Brock Shirley, one.
Sidney will be on the road at Heartland Christian, Friday, Jan. 5.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
