Below are recent results for the Southwest Iowa cross country team, a combined venture of the Fremont-Mills and Sidney schools.
SW Valley Invite—BOYS
Adam Thompson won his second straight invite and the Southwest Iowa boys’ team finished fourth at the eight team Southwest Valley Invite at Corning on Sept. 14.
Thompson ran 18:18 and Noah Jorgenson finished right behind him with a second place time of 18:53. Other Southwest times were by Starson Lovett, 14th, 20:47; Nick Muramontes, 20th, 21:27; and Dane Moyer, 51st, 26:03.
SW Valley Invite—GIRLS
Caitlyn Rasco led the way for Southwest Iowa at Corning with a 31st place time of 28:39.
The team finished sixth while Shenandoah won the meet and Red Oak took second.
Other runners and times for Southwest Iowa were Danita Fichter, 38th, 30:28; Danica Laumann, 39th, 31:10; Haylee Sloop, 46th, 35:28; and Sophie White, 47th, 35:28.
SW Iowa Invite—MS
Middle school runners and times for Southwest Iowa were, for the boys, Peyten VanHouten, eighth in 13:51; and Will Gutzmer, 10th in 14:17. 10th. Jessi Stem ran a time of 19:54 in the girls’ race.
Red Oak Invite—BOYS
Southwest Iowa finished fifth at the Red Oak Invite on Sept. 11 with Harlon winning the meet and Atlantic second.
Adam Thompson was the meet champion with a mark of 17:57.56
Other runners for SW Iowa were Noah Jorgenson, sixth, 18:44.52; Starson Lovett, 26th, 20:37.81; Nick Muramontes, 35th, 21:51.46; Michael Benedict, 44th, 23:57.37; and Dane Moyer, 48th, 26:27.18.
Coach Stephen Meyer said Thompson and Jorgenson were doing a great job in leading the team and further noted that Thompson came out of the Red Oak Invite as the No. 24 runner in the Iowa Class 2A standings.
Red Oak Invite—GIRLS
The Southwest Iowa girls’ team ran to a seventh place team finish while Harlan won the meet and Atlantic was second.
Times for the SW Iowa team were Caitlynn Rasco, 29th, 27:37.15; Danita Fichter, 41st, 30:52.05; Danica Laumann, 43rd, 31:27.18; Sophie White 45th, 34:44.23; and Haylee Sloop, 47th, 36:30.40.
Southwest Iowa finished sixth in the boys’ team race at the Treynor Invite on Sept. 5.
There were 13 teams in the field with Tri Center taking the top spot and St. Alberts finishing second.
Jerry Jorgensen was the individual champ with a run of 16:59.34.
Coach Stephen Meyer said the Southwest Iowa team was down a runner with the No. 5 man home due to illness.
Adam Thompson led the way for Southwest Iowa by finishing second in a field of 120 runners with a time of 17:29.28.
Other times for SW Iowa were Noah Jorgenson, ninth, 18:28.77; Nick Muramontes, 28th, 19:44.96; Starson Lovett 41st, 20:17.08; and Dane Moyer, 108th.
Southwest Iowa did not record a girls’ team score at the Treynor meet due to having four runners.
There were 11 teams in the scoring with Tri Center taking first and Underwood scoring second.
The champion of the event was Karley Larson of Underwood with a time of 19:13.42.
Southwest runners and times were Caitlyn Rasco, 50th, 25:44.62; Dakota Fichter, 79th, 28:25.42; Sophie White, 100th, 33:53.08; and Haylee Sloop, 101th, 35:42.75.
