Betty June Reed, 84, of Hamburg, formerly of Sidney, died on Jan. 13, 2010 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha. She was born on Aug. 25, 1925 in Council Bluffs, the daughter of Elmer and Cora (Brown) Hastie.
She graduated from Tabor High School in 1944 and then attended the Omaha Commercial Extension School in Omaha.
Betty married William Estle Reed on Oct. 21, 1944 in Sidney. She was a secretary for Bill for many years, and she was also a cook in the dietary department at the Sidney Health Center. Betty was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her children William Reed Jr. of Clarinda, Michael Reed of Hamburg, and Diane Dugan and husband Marc of Centennial, Colo.; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 30, 1999; daughter Carolyn Brodine in 1972; an infant grandson, William Grover; three sisters; two brothers; her parents; and her brother-in-law Leon Reed who died on the same day.
Funeral services were Jan. 18 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg with Rev. Bill Shirley officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Cemetery at rural Sidney.
