Robert Leo Schaeffer, son of Everett and Gertrude (Scoles) Schaeffer was born at rural Riverton in the family farm home on July 7, 1926.
He graduated from Riverton High School in 1944.  He served in the Army 1944-46. On Jan. 22, 1947, he married Arlene L. Newman at Hamburg.

He farmed and also worked for the local elevator for 30 years.  After retiring, he enjoyed restoring old tractors and continued to help out around the farm.  He was a member of the Riverton United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of rural Riverton; sons Terry Schaeffer and wife Mindy of Sidney and Randy Schaeffer and wife Becky of Riverton; grandchildren  Lindsay and Alex; great-grandson Owen; sister Barbara Parkison of Rippey; sister-in-law Dorlee Newman of Clarinda; uncle Glen Scoles of Winterset; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at the United Methodist Church in Riverton with the Rev. Jaye Johnson officiating; burial will follow in the Riverton Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Riverton United Methodist Church or theRiverton Fire Department.
