Elaine Tillman Carter, 74, of Ben Wheeler, Texas, died April 20, 2010 in Texas.  Elaine was born Nov. 12, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas, to James Newton and Mae Grissom Howell. 

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the secretary/ treasurer of the Ben Wheeler Water Board. She owned and operated The Round Up Cafe in both Sidney, Iowa, and Ben Wheeler, Texas. Elaine enjoyed cooking, traveling, people and "The Boat.”

She was preceded in death by a brother, J. H. Howell.  She is survived by her husband, Don Carter of Ben Wheeler; five daughters, Glenda Mahar and husband David of Springfield, Mo., Lou Ann Sornson and husband John of Warsaw, Mo., Tracy Holt and husband Greg of Sidney, Diana Herring and husband Steve of McKinney, Texas, and Michele Schram and husband Ray of Richardson, Texas; three sons, Ricky V. Carter of Richardson, Wayne Tillman of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Richard Tillman of Hamburg; special daughters in name, Kathy Farmer of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tammy Perry and husband Steven of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, Ben Harris and wife Larrisa, Alyssa Greedy, Jake Holt and Jennifer Spurlock, Layne Greedy, Clay Holt, Marc Tillman and Melissa Thummel; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Harris, Dakota Harris and Jocelyn Greedy; sister Ruby Maye Henson of De Ridder, La.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for the interment of ashes will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Mt. Zion Utterback Cemetery near Riverton with Pastor Roger Kissel officiating.  There will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial fund has been established.

Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
