Marcella M. Owings, age 91 of Sidney, IA (formerly Nebr. City) passed away
on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at The Ambassador in Sidney, IA.
Marcella was born on April 16, 1918 in Nebr. City, NE; the daughter of
Morris T. and Jessie E. (Tucker) Sharp. Marcella attended school in the
Nebr. City area. She was united in marriage to Herman Rietsch and to this
union a daughter Carol was born. Herman preceded her in death and
Marcella was then united in marriage to Arted „Buzz‰ Owings on February 5,
1945 in Nebr. City, NE and to this union two children were born: Richard
and Cheryl.
Marcella was a loving wife and mother. She worked at Appleman‚s Sewing
and Nebr. City Outerwear as a seamstress for many years. She was a member
of the Community of Christ Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish Marcella‚s memory include two children: Richard
Owings of Avoca, NE and Cheryl Messenger and husband Randy of Shenandoah,
IA; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild;
sister Jean Collins of Portland, OR and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arted on July 28, 1994; daughter
Carol Rietsch on June 4, 1995 and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2009 at
Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE with Pastor Tom Sherer of the Community of
Christ Church officiating; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr.
City.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday
evening ( 8/6) at the Gude Mortuary.
