Rose Mary Fischer, 91 of Elmwood, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, surrounded by family at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln.
She was born on May 22, 1926, to Albert & Christina (Meyer) Staack in Avoca. She received her teaching certificate from Peru State College.
Rose Mary married Francis Fischer on Feb. 4, 1947, in Elmwood.
She worked beside Francis on the farm and was a devoted mother.
Rose Mary belonged to the Elmwood Modern Mothers Club, St. Mary’s Altar Society, Legion Aux., Senior Center Board and May Bird Birthday Club. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards and attending sporting events.
Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Ann (Les) Hlavac of Louisville, Jim (Debbie) Fischer of Lincoln, Bill (Bev) Fischer, Bob (Denise) Fischer and Kathleen Fischer all of Elmwood; grandchildren: Chris (Mark) Jenson, Kyle (Sara) Fischer, Wade (Erin) Spicer, Chase Spicer and special friend Becky Clausen, Sara (Chris) Howard, Mike Fischer; great grandchildren: Jesse Jenson, Wrigley and Piper Fischer, Tristan and Kody Spicer, Macy and Zane Howard; sister: Lorene (LeRoy) Furry; sister-in-law: Rosie Staack; brother-in-law: Rich Vasina and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Harold Staack, Bud Staack, Charlie Staack, Mildred Staack and Delores Vasina.
A Funeral Mass was to be held on Monday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elmwood. Burial was to be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Elmwood.
Visitation was to be held Sunday, Nov. 12 from 12 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home then a rosary was to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. Family was to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Elmwood Senior Center.
