Elliott Wade Lair, age 93, of Hamburg, passed away early Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at the Ambassador in Sidney.
Wade was born on Feb. 9, 1924, in Atchison County, Missouri; the son of Eldon and Mabel (Smith) Lair.  
He attended school and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the class of 1942.  
On Jan. 19, 1942, he entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII.  
Wade served on the USS Wainwright and the USS LSM.  
These vessels were stationed in the Atlantic, North Atlantic, and Mediterranean Sea during his service on them.
He was also stationed in Italy and Russia.  
He was honorably discharged on Feb. 9, 1947.
Wade was united in marriage to Betty Jane Fletcher on Feb. 23, 1944, in Rock Port, Mo.  
He worked at various jobs over the years including for Moody Construction, Fremont County Maintenance and was a Custodian at the Hamburg High School.  
He was a member of the Hamburg American Legion. One of his favorite pastimes was woodworking.  He especially liked making birdhouses and frames.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty Lair, of Hamburg; children:  Claudia Stenzel and husband Mike of Hamburg; Ray Lair of Chesterfield, Va.; 10 grandchildren:  Damon Driskell and wife Mindy, Diedra Lanphier, Marc Lair and wife Carmen, Matthew Lair, Ryan Lair, Marcus Ferry, Sandra Hayes, Michelle Mulder and husband John, Terri Blaha and husband Jim, Michael Stenzel and wife Wendy; 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Ann Gregg of Hamburg;  other family and friends.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents; a son Wade Lair, one sister and four brothers.
Funeral Services were to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg with Pastor Tom Beutler officiating.  
Burial was to follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg with Military Honors by the Hamburg American Legion.
The family was to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday (11/10) at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg Rescue, Hamburg Baptist Church or The Ambassador in Sidney.
