Adele L. (Ganzel) Griepenstroh, age 97, passed away late Sunday, May 7, 2017, at The Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Adele was born on Jan. 1, 1920, at Unadilla; the daughter of Adolph and Nora (Lange) Meyer.
She was raised on a farm near Otoe and graduated from Otoe High School in 1936 and continued on to Peru State College and graduated with a teaching degree.
After graduation she taught school in Otoe County for four years.
Adele married Ralph A. Ganzel, Sr. on Jan. 2, 1941.
Ralph preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1983.
Adele and Ralph Griepenstroh were married Nov. 15, 1988, in Sutton. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2004.
Adele worked for the Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph Company until her retirement in January of 1978.
She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and their Ladies Church Circle.
She also belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a former member of the Daughters of the Nile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Alwin, Adolph, Erwin, Herman and Henry Meyer; son and daughter-in-law Ralph and Veronica Ganzel and a grandson Bryan Ganzel.
Adele is survived by her daughter Kay Doehling and husband Charles of Lincoln; son Lonny Ganzel and wife Lorna of Lincoln; grandson Roger Doehling and wife Tori of Omaha, and granddaughter Shelly Rezac and husband Lee of Waverly; eight great-grandchildren; step-sons Steve Griepenstroh of Nebraska City and Patrick Griepenstroh and wife Susan of Syracuse; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City with Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City or Donor’s choice.
