Suspects in the Nov. 14 stabbing death of 19-year-old Douglas Mitchell Brake have been scheduled for trial on Feb. 15.
Court records indicate that Jennifer Lee Tierney, 17, of Hamburg and Cayla Cheree Binder, 18, of Lawton, Iowa, were involved in a physical altercation with Brake in the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office in Hamburg.
Brake had been walking with two other males from the Casey’s General Store to a nearby apartment when he was confronted.
Investigator David L. Dales, a special agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, told the court that “both females were concealing knives as they approached Douglas Brake and his two friends.”
During the fight with Brake, Tierney produced a knife and stabbed him on the back, Dales said.
He said Brake ran in the direction of the apartment building, but collapsed less than a block away. The two males who had been walking with him then discovered he was suffering from a deep stab wound around 7:26 a.m.
Arraignment for Tierney on a second degree murder charge is scheduled Dec. 6. Binder will also be arraigned Dec. 6 on charges of accessory after the fact, going armed with intent and a probation violation.
