Fire damages Hamburg home

 Video>>>  A house fire in Hamburg Tuesday night resulted in an estimated $50,000 in damage.  Murl Dovel’s rental property at 1501 Park Street caught fire around 9:30.  Kim and Chris Copeland are renting the property.  There were no injuries.
   By the time fire crews arrived, flames had reached the attic above the kitchen.  The majority of the damage to the house was heat and water damage in the kitchen, attic and porch.  Some belongings were salvaged.
Hamburg Fire Chief Dan Sturm reported that the source of the fire was a shorted out electrical box on the porch outside the kitchen. 

Sheriff investigating Fremont-Mills bomb threat

Students and teachers were evacuated from Fremont-Mills Tuesday afternoon following a bomb threat. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department and the Tabor Police Department responded to the threat at 2:35 p.m.

Patrol vehicle smashed at scene

It was a close call for Deputy Randy Chapman when a semi truck hit his parked patrol vehicle while he was assisting the Missouri State Patrol on I-29 just south of Hamburg.

Two men arrested for separate incidents

Two men were arrested July 15 on Fremont County warrants for separate incidents. Joshua Lee Likenhoker, 26, of Thurman, was arrested for three counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and impersonating a public official. Linkenhoker is being held at the Fremont County Jail with no bond.

Brett Michael Stacey, 20, of Shenandoah was arrested for sexual abuse, 3rd degree. Aistrope said the July 2 incident involved a 14-year-old minor and occurred in Sidney. Stacey is being held at the Fremont County Jail with a bond of $10,000 cash or surety.

Imogene can’t foot county bill

By asking each incorporated town in the county to pay the same per capita fee to help with expenses associated with the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Kevin Aistrope thought he was doing the right thing in treating everyone the same. But the cash-strapped City of Imogene is having problems footing the bill.

Mayor Dorothy Colwell and Clerk Terri Poe came before the Fremont County Board of Supervisors looking for guidance.

“If we do this, we will have to unincorporate in several years,” Poe said. “It’s not that we disagree with having to pay for these services like everyone else, we just need some guidance.”

Council approves contract for deputy patrol

The Hamburg City Council approved the contract for a 28E agreement for law enforcement with the county at their regular meeting on Feb. 9. It will take effect March 1.
