One of the two suspects to lead law enforcement on a high speed chase, followed by a search after they wrecked and abandoned the vehicle they had allegeldly stolen was apprehended yesterday. A report came in to the Fremont County Sheriff's office that a subject was running south on the West Nishnabotna levee. Deputies responded and apprehended Sean Christopher Schmidt, 37, of St. Joseph, Mo.
A person was run over by a car in Sidney Jan. 7.
At least one person suffered burns in a house fire Thursday night south of Farragut. The home of Mike and Deb Michel at 3937 310th St. was totally destroyed.
Hamburg fire fighter Tom Woodward said he believed Deb Michel received minor burns. He said he was not aware of any injuries to Mike or the couple’s son Cody, who was reportedly also home.
An official report on the fire is yet to be released.
Kimothy (Kim) Hatten Polk, 56, of Sidney was killed in a one vehicle accident that occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
The Iowa Supreme Court is expected to rule in the spring or early summer on an appeal regarding Hamburg’s ordinance regulating sexually-oriented businesses.
Cayla Cheree Binder, 18, of Lawton, Iowa, pled guilty Jan. 18 to both Accessory After the Fact and Going Armed with Intent in connection with the stabbing death of Douglas Mitchell Brake Nov. 14 in Hamburg.
On the Accessory charge, District Judge Richard Davidson sentenced Binder to 59 days in jail, with credit for 59 days served.
Bradley Dean Christiansen, 28, of Nebraska City, Neb. was arrested in Hamburg Jan. 6 and charged with Forgery, a class “D” Felony. Christiansen has allegedly attempted to purchase items from the Casey’s store in Hamburg using counterfeit money.
The Fremont County Board of Supervisors has approved the use of $35,000 from the county’s general fund to pay for the cost of housing female prisoners in other counties.
Three Hamburg teens have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 28. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cordero Rodriguez, 19; Salbador Martinez, 18; and a 16-year-old male for their alleged involvement in burglaries at the Hamburg Medical Clinic, Hamburg Public Library and an office building owned by Stoner Drug.
District Court Judge Richard H. Davidson denied a motion by attorney James Burger to try his client, Jennifer Lee Tierney, 17, of Hamburg, as a juvenile.
Four men were cited for poaching deer on December 7, in rural Audubon County.
The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office has named Joshua Keadle, 29, as an alleged suspect in the disappearance of Tyler Thomas, a Peru State College student that has been missing since early Dec. 3. According to court records, authorities gained probable cause for Keadle’s arrest from interviews conducted on Dec. 3, 6 and 7.
Two men were cited Wednesday for illegally poaching three buck deer in Iowa. Paul McCulley, 67, Greenwell Springs, La., and Michael McCulley, 36, of Brandon, Miss., each pleaded guilty to unlawful take of deer and to not having a valid deer tag.
Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the disappearance of Tyler Thomas, a 19-year-old freshman at Peru State College who has been missing since Friday.
On Wednesday, Dec. 8, investigators arrested Joshua Keadle, 29, for Providing False Information and Tampering with Evidence in connection with the investigation into Thomas’ disappearance.
A Council Bluffs man accused of robbery at the Casey’s General Store in Sidney, Iowa, on Nov. 10 allegedly handed the clerk a threatening note.
Court records indicate that Ralph S. Peterson, 47, had his hand in his pocket causing the clerk to believe he had a weapon.
Suspects in the Nov. 14 stabbing death of 19-year-old Douglas Mitchell Brake have been scheduled for trial on Feb. 15.
Court records indicate that Jennifer Lee Tierney, 17, of Hamburg and Cayla Cheree Binder, 18, of Lawton, Iowa, were involved in a physical altercation with Brake in the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office in Hamburg. Tierney is accused of stabbing her former boyfriend in the back.

By the time fire crews arrived, flames had reached the attic above the kitchen. The majority of the damage to the house was heat and water damage in the kitchen, attic and porch. Some belongings were salvaged.
Hamburg Fire Chief Dan Sturm reported that the source of the fire was a shorted out electrical box on the porch outside the kitchen.
Students and teachers were evacuated from Fremont-Mills Tuesday afternoon following a bomb threat. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department and the Tabor Police Department responded to the threat at 2:35 p.m.
