It's August—already!—and time to get prepared for the new school year.
Back-to-School Night in Hamburg is August 22nd from 6 to 7 p.m.  Students and their parents will meet their teachers, learn about After School Clubs, walk through the school, and stow their supplies in lockers and desks.
Registration for Hamburg Elementary and Middle School students will take place on Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 15–17, at Marnie Simons Elementary School, 309 S Street, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All students in Preschool through eighth grade must attend registration.
Material fees should be paid at that time.
The full price is $20. The reduced price of $5 is available to those in need.
Universal breakfast is free to all students. Full-price lunches are $2.30 ($.40 at reduced price).
Afternoon milk is $.30.
Parents will receive a list of the many bus stops at registration.
All seventh and eighth graders participating in athletics must have had a physical examination.  Student athletes who have not yet had a physical can get one for free on Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Shenandoah Medical Center, 1 Jack Foster Drive in Shenandoah, by calling 712-246-7400 for an appointment. Physical exam forms are available on the Hamburg Community School District website.
Students requiring a physical exam for athletics can also get their immunizations at the Shenandoah Medical Center on Aug. 12.
Students under 18 years of age must have a parent present for all immunizations.
Immunizations for all students need to be up-to-date. Kindergartners must have a physical prior to school; seventh graders are required to have either the meningococcal vaccination, or a religious exception.
The first day of school is Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
School will dismiss at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, August 23, 24, and 25.
Fall School Pictures will be taken Aug. 29, with a retake date of Oct. 3.
Regular school hours have changed.
Classes now take place Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30pm. On Fridays, school starts at 8 a.m. and is dismissed at 1:30 p.m. for Professional Development for teachers.
There are no Monday morning late starts this year.
There is a list of school supplies on the Hamburg Community School District website, hamburgcsd.org. The supplies which have been marked for your child's grade level are those recommended by the teacher.
If you are unable to afford these supplies, please contact the principal before school starts at 712-382-2017.
The parents of three- and four-year old children are encouraged to register their child for Preschool, which will be Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 28.
Daycare slots are also available before and after Preschool. Slots are limited, so parents should sign up at Marnie Simons as soon as possible.
There are several new faces at Marnie Simons this fall. Mr. Aaron Allred is the new middle school Science teacher, replacing Mrs. Wynia, who has moved to George, Iowa, to teach high school science.
Along with Hamburg's new Title Math teacher, Kristen Martin, Mr. Allred will also be involved in the middle- school engineering program Project Lead the Way (PLTW).
During the coming school year, PLTW will be offering classes in Design and Modeling, as well as Automation and Robotics.
The new Preschool teacher is Katie Dow. Lindsay Schaffer is the new Preschool Para-educator.
Sidney High School registration for grades nine through 12 was to be Thursday, Aug. 10, all day at the Sidney High School Commons Area and Gym.
