West Central Community Action Head Start is now enrolling all 3 and 4 year olds for preschool.  
Families who live within Monona, Crawford, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page counties and have a child under the age of 5 may qualify.  
Children with special needs are welcome.  Families must qualify to enroll; however, income is not a limiting factor for all programs.

Head Start is a scholarship based, comprehensive preschool and family program that offers a broad range of services for children in low-income families and children with special needs and their families.  
In addition to classroom activities that are interactive and age appropriate, children in the Head Start receive medical and dental screenings, nutrition guidance and therapy for children with special needs.  
Head Start families can actively participate in parenting workshops, lead parent groups on program decision making and enhance job training skills in their child’s classroom as a volunteer.
In addition to preschool Head Start, enrollments are also being accepted for Early Head Start, a program tha serves children from birth to age 3, as well as pregnant women.
Families who live within Crawford, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page and Pottawattamie counties and have a child between the ages of newborn to 3 years  or expecting a child may qualify.
