Hamburg residents will host a VIP visitor on Saturday, July 8, as Senator Joni Ernst is planning a visit to Hamburg’s Freedom Rock in the City Park.
Ernst will arrive in Hamburg around 11 a.m. for a visit with local residents and will be available to pose for commemorative pictures at that time.
The senator’s trip to Hamburg is part of a motorcycle ride event set to begin at Loess Hills Harley-Davidson at Pacific Junction.
Riders will pay $20 to be a part of the event and can bring a passenger along for the ride for an extra $10. Riders and passengers can still sign up to participate with registration taking place at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
The dealership is sponsoring the event through its membership in HOG, Harley Owners Group. Funds collected at the ride will donated to the non-profit group Our Military Kids.
Our Military Kids, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and supports children, age 5 through the 12th grade, of deployed National Guard and Reserve service members and children of wounded warriors from all service branches. Grants from the organization pay for participation in activities that help children cope with anxiety and stress while their parents are recovering or absent.
Elaine Howard of Hamburg Hometown Pride said that the riders and passengers will get to enjoy food provided by the Omaha Food Truck Association.
Upon arrival in Hamburg, Howard said the Hometown Pride Group will be on hand with cold beverages for the participants and will also inform the riders and the senator about local attractions such as the Hamburg Heroes Park, which features artifacts from the former World Trade Center.
Other promoted attractions will include the town’s historic library, the Colonial Theater and the Marnie Simons school farm.
Howard said she will also invite participants to take riding tour of the town to view and possibly to support local merchants.
This event should prove to be of interest to many residents and Howard said all are welcomed to attend. The senator herself is excited about the trip.
““I am thrilled to join folks in this motorcycle ride honoring military families," said Senator Ernst. “Some of my most cherished memories include motorcycles; from delivering messages as a young girl to my dad while he was working out in the fields on our family farm, to riding through the rolling hills of Northeast Iowa with family and friends. I look forward to leading my fellow motorcycle riders from Pacific Junction to the Freedom Rock in Hamburg."
