A group of Hamburg boy scouts headed out earlier this week for a week-long trip to summer camp, Camp Cedars, at Cedar Bluffs, Nebr.
During the camp, the scouts will learn about rifle and shot gun shooting, canoeing and first aid.
Scout leader Brian Harris said one of the campers is planning to make environmental science his focus.
Hamburg kids at the camp are Joseph Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, Jackson Driever, Bryaint Kingery, Wyatt Rasmussen and Mason Hankins. The summer camp will be the biggest event of the summer for the Hamburg scouts, but it’s not their only event.
Scouts will put up the flags for the Fourth of July this year, will go on camp outs and are planning a larger-than-usual flag retirement ceremony this year. Harris said the Hamburg Scouts will retire some 400 flags. Usually that number is between 10 to 20.
These are flags that have been dropped off at Scout Hall during the course of the year.
After the school year starts, the Hamburg Scouts will look forward to marching in the annual Popcorn Day Parade in Hamburg.
