Mandy Maher, Program Coordinator of the Fremont County Extension & Outreach, attended the recent storyteller facilitator training in Cass County.
Heidi Lowthorp, Growing Strong Families Parent Educator, has also completed the training.
Family Storyteller teaches parents 12 skills for reading to children that will enhance their child’s experiences with books.  Parents will learn the importance of not only reading to their child but doing activities related to the stories.   During the six sessions the families will receive books, take home activities and supplies to do the activities.
Reading will be a special time for the parents and children to be together and share the love of reading.  Reading will increase the amount families will spend together.  A child between the ages of one and six who shares a book with an adult for 15 minutes a day will have experienced 455 hours of reading before entering school.  This will give the child a good foundation of experiences to begin school.
Watch for information on when the Family Storyteller Program will be offered in Fremont County.
