Hamburg, Iowa -

Bring on the flying trapeze! Bring on the clowns! Bring on the big top!  The circus is coming to town!

The Hamburg Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus to be in town May 19.

Cyndee Thompson, Kiwanis president, said the club was approached by the circus about the local interest.

“We decided the circus hadn't been here for awhile and wanted to bring it in for the kids and our community,” she said.

The one and a half hour show, which will be performed twice, will feature jungle cats, single trapeze, unicycles, high wire thrills and much more.

The big top will be set up in the lot south of the tennis courts.

Thompson said the local businesses will be contacted by phone by the circus on behalf of the Kiwanis Club to see if they would be willing to purchase kids tickets.

“We understand everyone get lots of telemarketing calls so wanted to make sure they know the call is legit. If they purchase tickets, The Kiwanis Club will bring the business their tickets and collect the money.  They can keep them to give to employees or whatever they choose.  They also have the option to donate the tickets to our club and we will get them distributed to kids that may not otherwise attend.”

The club will also be selling tickets in advance and also at the door; however, they are not sure when they will start selling them in advance.

Advanced prices will be $9/adults and $6/kids (12 and under).  Tickets at the door are $12/adults and $7/kids (12 and under).
