Anita A. Scott, 96, of Sidney, died Jan. 28, 2009 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg following a brief illness.


Anita A. Scott, 96, of Sidney, died Jan. 28, 2009 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg following a brief illness. She was born Jan. 17, 1913 near Sidney to George William Adams and Lydia Delphine (Spittler) Adams.
She graduated in 1930 from Sidney High School as class valedictorian. She taught in a one-room school house at Hampton Country School near Anderson. On Oct. 17, 1937 she married Stephen W. Scott in Rock Port, Mo.
She was a member of Sidney United Methodist Church where she was active in many church groups including the UMW, Sidney Garden Club, North Liberty Ladies Aid, Sidney Monday Club, Pythian Sisters, Farm Bureau and Fremont County Democrats. Anita enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, and reading. She moved to the Sidney Ambassador in July of 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, and a granddaughter, Janet Hopping.
She is survived by son John Scott and wife Connie of Sidney; daughter Joyce Hopping and husband Bill of Hamburg; six grandchildren, Mark Hopping and wife Susie, Melinda Simonson and husband Jim, Kristine Spears and husband Randy, Dianna Vasa, Stephen Scott and wife Andrea and Melissa Thyne; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends;
A memorial service was Jan. 31 at the Sidney Methodist Church with Rev. Jaye Johnson and Rev. Melvin Hurst officiating. Interment of ashes was at Hamburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sidney Rescue Squad, Sidney Public LIbrary or Sidney United Methodist Church.
Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney was in charge of arrangements.
