Fatal accident reported at south intersection

A 29-year-old Hamburg, Iowa, woman was killed Feb. 16 at the intersection of highways 2 and 75 south of Nebraska City. The state has proposed a interchange for the intersection.

Nebraska City Fire and EMS responded the intersection of Highways 2 and 75 at 11:08 a.m. on Tuesday where there was an accident  involving Shalena Lakisha Mae Spellman, 29, of Hamburg, Iowa.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office reports that Spellman suffered fatal injuries after she pulled her 2001 Plymouth Neon into the path of a westbound Freightliner truck and semi-trailer hauling treated power poles.

The driver of the truck, 40-year-old Henry Scott Wylie of Preston, Miss., was uninjured.
The sheriff’s office reports that Spellman had stopped her car, but proceeded into the intersection against the red light.

Fire and EMS responders extricated her from the vehicle and transported her to St. Mary’s Community Hospital.
